Humanitec, Part of PlatCo Group, Transitions Score to CNCF Sandbox, Elevating Platform Engineering in the Cloud-Native Landscape

Berlin, Germany — July 9, 2024 — Humanitec, a leader in platform engineering and part of PlatCo Group, is pleased to announce that Score, its innovative open-source project created to streamline workload configuration, has been accepted into the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a Sandbox project. This milestone underscores Humanitec's commitment to open-source advancement and marks a significant step toward enhancing the cloud-native ecosystem, aligning perfectly with CNCF’s mission to nurture cloud-native technologies.

Score was developed by Humanitec to address the need for a standardized approach to workload configuration, empowering engineers to define and manage applications consistently across various environments. This unification simplifies complex workflows and reduces configuration drift, making it easier for platform engineers to maintain consistency as they scale. As a CNCF Sandbox project, Score will leverage CNCF’s expansive network of contributors, resources, and collaborative support, accelerating its growth and adoption within the cloud-native community.

“Score was designed to tackle the complexities of workload configuration by providing a simple, consistent solution for modern engineering teams,” said Kaspar von Grünberg, CEO of Humanitec. “Becoming a part of the CNCF is an exciting chapter for Score. The CNCF’s ecosystem will be instrumental in helping Score reach new heights, providing engineers worldwide with a cloud-native-aligned, open-source approach to workload configuration.”

The CNCF Sandbox offers vital support for promising early-stage projects that address critical industry challenges. By joining this ecosystem, Score gains increased visibility, an expanded contributor base, and the backing required for ongoing evolution. As a project within CNCF, Score will continue to be driven by real-world feedback and stay aligned with advancements in cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes and Helm.

Score’s unique abstraction layer provides a unified configuration model for development, testing, and production environments, simplifying transitions across these stages and enhancing portability for engineering teams. By joining CNCF, Score strengthens its position as an essential tool in the cloud-native toolkit, offering platform engineers a streamlined, portable, and consistent approach to workload configuration.

This inclusion in the CNCF Sandbox arrives at a critical time as organizations worldwide seek to standardize and simplify development workflows. With CNCF’s support, Score will be well-equipped to address these needs, advancing platform engineering practices across industries and delivering essential tools for teams to manage configuration with ease and scalability.
